A proposal has been submitted to the SCCA Club Racing Competition Board, requesting the creation of IT2 - applying the existing IT rules to a new class positioned between ITA and ITS. A copy is available here for those interested in reviewing it.
The rumor mill has suggested that the Comp Board may soon consider the use of traditional Club Racing "competition adjustments" in the IT category. Given this, the time might be right to suggest an alternative course of action that is in line with the "no guarantee of competitiveness" and "no competition adjustments" philosophies that seem to be fundamental to the IT category. While it would not address all of the issues brought up by IT racers unhappy with the specification and weight-setting process, IT2 potentially resolves a number of the more common complaints.
If you support the idea of creating IT2 (and/or MT2), there are a few things that you can do to help out.
Contact your area director and voice your support (click your division on the map).
Petition Competition Board members to let them know you think IT2 is a good idea. It is important that you write your own letter, rather than adding your name to someone else's ideas but feel free to review this example, sent by NE RA Greg Amy to the Comp Board this winter.
Communicate with members of the IT advisory committee and do the same.
Spread the word among racers in your own region about the IT2 idea.
Pitch the idea of running IT2 or MT2 to your regional leadership. Greg Amy has consented to make available the PowerPoint presentation that he used in his presentation at the NEDiv meeting in early January.
While IT2 will not become a reality for the 2003 season, if we work together over the coming months, it might be an option for 2004. Thank you for your support.
